| AS IV | May - World Science Fiction Convention in St. Louis. Middle Kingdom founded, Cariadoc of the Bow and Diana Alene crowned first King and Queen of the MidRealm. Jamie Fox attended and reportedly swore fealty to the new King. |
| 1970 | April - Jamie Fox writes a letter to Jehan de la Marche (Founder of the Barony Middle Marches) Text of the message (As copied from MidRealm history) follows: Sirrah greeting, |
| AS V | May - Jehan de la Marche, after much confusion, signs a treaty with Jamie Fox stating that he (Jehan) is Baron Middle Marches, with two marches therein, the Marshes and Cleftlands. Jamie Fox is named deputy seneschal of the Marches in charge of the Cleftlands. This did not settle the dispute. Later Cariadoc names Jamie Margrave of the Cleftlands. November - Jamie Fox attends his first official SCA event, he had sworn fealty to Cariadoc of the Bow at a science fiction convention and previously written to the Board of Directors to form the first SCA group in Ohio. Jamie neglected to file paperwork properly and so Barony Middle Marches was formed before the March of the Cleftlands. Cleftlands meetings happened on Sundays at Cleveland State University. |
| 1971 | Midwestern Tolkien Conference at Cleveland State University, Jan Finder arranged for the event to be publicized in SCA circles. Caraiodoc, Andrew of Seldomrest, Akmed (Then King of the East) and Jehan de la Marche all attended. A small tournament was run as well. |
| AS VI | Amron the Stygian named seneschal, Erika and Jamie Fox begin to cooperate and attract new members, Marixa of Crawfordmere being one, Thiersa, Litvak of the many names, Eudaimon, Stirling von Hamm and Neandir. -Group officially named The Cleftlands and Cleftlands device decided upon, Lady Erika was Pursuivant and added the flames proper. August - First Event held in the March of the Cleftlands. According to Marixa of Crawfordmere "nothing terrible happened. The fighting was adequate, Armon predictably winning; the feast was reasonable warmed-up picnic food, but the revel was memorable." Of note members of the newly formed Horde visited, starting a long friendship with the Cleftlands. Note from His Grace Luarelen: "This was an unusual thing since The Dark Horde was treated by "Kingdomers" (as Hordesman then referred to everyone else) as an outcast "gang". This was probaby because the first appearance of the Horde incuded its first, and long time, Great Khan, Yang the Nauseating, with Bork the Indestructible, and Temujin, looking more like refugees from a Sturgis rally than the SCA. Such a description of people seemed to fit right in with Cleftlands. (for more on this see Middle Kingdom historical documents)" |
| 1972 | February - the first Blunderbus christened. A large black van used to ferry Cleftlanders to events. When it finally died indeed, another Blunderbus took its place. March - Laurelen Darksbane and Karl Ulfson join the SCA - Cleftlands fighters banned from MidRealm lists due to "unrestrained" fighting styles which resulted from extreme isolation as a far border March of the MidRealm. -Meetings held on CWRU's campus in Thwing Ballroom on Tuesday nights. |

| 1973 | March -House Elamon is formed by Laurelen, with Karl and (later that year) Marc Rengarth. The name is elvish for 'Star Hill' Both Laurelen and Karl were Astronomy majors at Case Institute of Technology, and lived in one of the hill top dorms. - Several Cleftlanders join the Dark Horde including Ozymandius the Superfluous, Swami the Far Flung Traveller of the East, Gladius (Honorious) and Yamoto Daishi. - January 20th - Tourney. First Cleftlands Event posted in the MidRealm Book of Lists. |
| AS VIII | December 8th - Michealmas Event and Tourney held in Thwing Hall, attendance was about 80 or 90. . Attendees included the new Duke Andew of Seldomrest who, as King, led the MidRealm Army (approximately 30 fighters total) three months earlier at "The Pennsic War" Laurelen and Karl Ulfson's first "Kingdom" event. - Swami starts attending Gwyntarian meetings hoping to help the other group and proposes an alliance called the "Enclave of the Eastern Hills". |

| AS IX |
Summer- University Circle Inc takes back the keys to House Asgaard. The House was not left in the best of condition. (Perhaps somethng to do with either the coal-fired forge, or maybe the live sheep, among other unusual things that were kept in the basement.) Gladius had to sneak in to steal back his anvil. October 12th - Coronation of Dagan du Darregonne and Armida Morgan held at Squire's Castle in the North Chagrin Reservation. Ozzie, Karen, Swami and Maria did a lot of the planning. The tourney was to be at Thwing Hall, the feast at Fenn Tower. The tourney never happened. Reportedly the worst feast in Cleftlands history; a vat of peas was overturned, the pig was delivered 2 hours late, there was one medium sized, partially cooked salmon, and many more people showed up than food had been prepared for. First Coronation held in the Cleftlands. |
| 1975 | - Lady Ann MacDee finishes a new Cleftlands Banner. - Cook's Guild is active -Between semesters at CWRU, Cleftlanders set up a Forge behind Kusch House Dorm. Karl's bronze axe was cast and Laurelen's sword forged there. - Cleftlands meetings now on Wednesday nights in Thwing Hall. - Ithriliel (Karl Ulfson's sister) joins the SCA and House Elamon. January 9th - Medieval University Event, Andrew of SeldomRest teaches a class on medieval board games. (Reported in MOA's records) April 5 - event in Warren Ohio? April - demo held. |
| AS X | Spring - Alen and Emmelyne join SCA, later to become authorized fighters. They join House Elamon in late 1975. July 4th - Black Powder Testing August 30th - Pennsic War Four; 'The Pennsic Pour' autocrated by Gladius the Alchemist, Andrew and Swami. Site was Frank Spencer's farm. The event was fraught with difficulties and rain from Thursday through Sunday. Alen Elegil's first event. He spent most of it in the mud attaching chains to cars so they could be pulled out of the quagmire by tractor (manned by Duke Andrew). November 1st - Tourney, there was archery at the event. Fall - demo. Yamoto Daishi shoots a crossbow bolt through the window of Adelbert gym. Fortunately no one is hurt. From that day CWRU has a weight limit on bows at their archery range and no crossbows allowed. Chronicler's note: As of 2003 the Case Archery club has forgotten the incident and there is no longer a poundage limit on the range. -Milesent |
| 1976 | - Ladislas Vulcu becomes Exchequer January 4th - Needleworker's Guild submitted their charter, five members. They are the second organized guild of the Cleftlands, the Cooks Guild predating them. January 10th - Twelth Night Event. 'Frostbite Tourney' first event held at Camp Cheerful. Cabins, unfortunately, were not winterized as promised. A very cold event. January 10th - Alen becomes an authorized fighter. |

August 7th - Tourney (Demo? Held in Mather Gym. Drew TV coverage.) August - Alen receives the Dragon's Heart for his work preparing the site for Pennsic 5. October - Marixsa of Crawfordmuir elevated to the Order of the Laurel. November 20th - Fantasy Masque event held at Cleveland State University and Trinity Cathedral. Laurelen and Maria of Oxenford autocrat. Event featured 'sea battles' with jousting in the pool. Laurelen sustained a concussion from a plastic boffer sword which left him reeling and sick from badly skewed balance. His apparently inebriated condition caused the Cathedral to ask the SCA not to return. However the event was a great success and impressed Crown Prince Finvaar enough for him to recommend Cleftlands as a site for Coronation to Merowald. |
| 1977 | March 31st - Tourney and Quest event, held at Camp Cheerful. (Eastern Hills event) Marixsa won the Eastern Hills arts competition, and chose Gladius as her consort. Gwyntarian, however, turned down the proposed union between the two groups. |
| AS XII | May 17th - Needleworker's Guild Charter approved? Marixsa was Guildmistress, Maria of Oxenford Minister of Arts. 7 guild members signed charter. Spring-- Karl Ulfson becomes a fighter. June 25th - Tourney July 2nd - Ducal Encounter event. Camping event, Duke Dagan and Duke Andrew were the Dukes. Laurelen becomes an authorized fighter. July 8th - Cooks Guild Charter approved, Maria of Oxenford is guildmistress, Guild had been founded by Katrine de Baille du Chats. Seven members. October 15th - Laurelen, Maria, and Alen autocrat Coronation of Merowald de Sylveaston and Kirsten von der Walde in Cleftlands. Event was held in Thwing Hall on CWRU's campus. Laurelen made a multitude of candles for the event. The feast sat approx. 250, which was huge for the time (and even respectable for today's feasts.) With this event, Cleftlands reputation was not only repaired throughout the MidRealm but it became known as one of the most hospitable "don't-miss-an-event-there" groups in the Realm. October 15th - Court of Merowald and Kristen, Laurelen, Maria and Alen receive the Order of the Purple Fret. (Yes, it is the Award of the Purple fret, but at this event was given out with the wording of an Order). |
| 1978 | - A Soothsayer's Guild formed, studying the Tarot - Scholar's Guild formed. - Middle Kingdom Gamer's Guild led by Yamoto Daishi in the Cleftlands. - Marixsa of Crawfordmuir entered into the Order of the Laurel by King Albert. January - Karl and Maria made Barons of the Court by King Merowald. February 2nd - Candlemas event? First performance of the Singer's (Player's) Guild. Irene of Briony Woods founding guildmistress. (may be the 1979 Candlemas instead) February 9th - Needleworker's guild charter (submitted? Revised?) April 1st - Pirate Tourney Event held at Camp Cheerful, our last event as the Marche of the Cleftlands. Laurelen was the autocrat. Hedwig von Lubeck took care of the feast, Maria and Laurelen run the kitchen and prepare breakfast for all at event (about 150). Maria cooks up 8 gallons of oatmeal, many quarts of coffee, and uncounted pounds of bacon, while Laurelen prepares 29 1/2 dozen pancakes and 12 dozen eggs in the morning. All before the tournaments. . Zoltan won the best pirate costume contest. Mark Rengarth performed a magic show. |
| AS XIII | - Marixsa of Crawfordmuir tries to coalesce the Informal Association of Dancers into a Guild. May 5th - Cleftlands made a Barony by King Merowald de Sylveastan at his last court as king just prior to the Coronation of Moonwulf and Zarina at Crown Tournament in Rivenstar. May - Laurelen resigns as Seneschal and Pursuivant of the Cleftlands. Gwennan O'r Afon Redeg takes his place as Seneschal, Gabriel Serenarian becomes Pursuivant. May 5th - Laurelen named Baron Cleftlands. Swami and Marixsa were also considered for the title, but both were moving out of the Cleftlands in the near future. Jamie Fox relinquishes the title Margrave of the Cleftlands. July 2nd - Laurelen founds Order of the Winged Trine of the Barony of the Cleftlands at the Second 'Ducal Encounter' event near Toledo. Archery practice and feast. The event was cancelled after several days of continuous rain without any actual fighting taking place. Summer - Brewer's Guild Charter written. The Brewers are the third organized Guild of the Cleftlands. Swami and Omar are co-Guildmasters, Hedwig von Lubeck guild exchequer. September 9th - Ithriliel founds first Cleftlands Baronial Champions Tournament. This is our first major event as a Barony. Well attended, of course. Held at Thwing Hall on CWRU's campus. 'War of the Roses' theme, the event included a university and lectures. There was a surprise mock poisoning at the sumptuous feast. Autocrated by Alen and Irene. September 9th? - Alen Elegil becomes first Cleftlands Baronial Champion October 28th - Laurelen and Alen were made Knights simultaneously during the finals of Crown tournament in Northwoods. This is only simultaneous double knighting in MidRealm history. King Nathan was not himself a knight so Duke Sir Andrew of Seldomrest held the sword for Laurelen and Duke Sir Dagan du Darrengonne held the sword for Alen. Alen had been Duke Dagan's squire. October - Syr Laurelen won his first Crown Tournament for Ithriliel (fighting against Syr Alen who was the other finalist fighting for Emmelynne Carithil - all in House Elamon) The final bout was fought with polearms. |
| 1979 | -HRH Laurelen and Sir Alen end fighting at meetings at 8:30 to allow a half hour of dancing before business meeting at 9:00. This greatly increases the number of fighters dancing. Notably Dance mistress Marixsa reports 30 dancers at one meeting alone. - A subtly contest is held at a Dessert Revel, Vlad wins. - Lady Ohne Name takes over as leader of the Player's Guild January - Hedwig von Lubeck becomes Guildmistress of the Cooks Guild. January 17th- Player's Guild formed, Irene of Briony Wood Guildmistress, 7 members of guild. February 10th - Candlemas Event. Featured a miniature tourney (painted miniatures pitted against each other.) attendees were given Cleftlands script and the one who had the most 'Cleftlands bucks' at the end of the event, Jake the Snake, won a prize. Performance by Player's Guild. February 10th - Court of Nathan: Alen inducted into the Order of the Dragon's Tooth. |
| AS XIV | -Informal Association of Dancers disbanded due to lack of interest. May 5th - Ithriliel and Laurelen and Maria autocrat Coronation in Cleftlands. The Coronation happened in Mather Courtyard of CWRU's campus, the sunlight breaking through the clouds at just the right moment. Queen Ithriliel and King Laurelen ascend Dragon thrones. Another feast for over 250 was organized by Maria of Oxenford and served in nearby Thwing Hall. There was a two-person melee tourney. May 5th - The MidRealm sword of state, "Oathbinder" is presented and entered into regalia by its maker, Laurelen, during his first court with Ithriliel following their Coronation. May 5th - King Laurelen took Grod Gondiris as Squire, at his first Coronation feast. May (Memorial Day weekend)- Syr Alen won his first Crown fighting for Emmelynne Carithil, making Cleftlands, and House Elamon, the home of the MidRealm's Royalty (King, Queen, Prince, and Princess). This predominance of the Cleftlands in MidRealm leadership in following years came to be known as the 'Ohio Conspiracy'. August - Cleftlands name and device finally officially registered with the college of heralds. (Possibly it was not a requirement until that year? Many groups register their devices this year. August - Queen Ithriliel and King Laurelen Autocrat Pennsic War VIII with Elamon, and all of Cleftlands, as well as others, pitching in to make it work. There was a disagreement with the Eastern King regarding the woods battle, and Laurelen conceded a war point making the war a tie. October - King Alen and Queen Emmelynne ascend dragon thrones. October - Earl Laurelen Became Earl Marshal of the MidRealm upon bequeathing Crown to King Alen. Laurelen remains Earl Marshal until May, 1985, publishing the Middle Kingdom Marshal's Handbook, used until revised with additions almost 15 years later. |
| 1980 | February 2nd - Candlemas Event. Held at St. Helen and Constantine. February 2nd - Court of King Alen and Queen Emelyn. Johanna van Dendermonde, Joscellynn of Wellswood, and Rashid al-Rashidum ibn Yaakov b'hup b'l Salaam entered the Order of the Willow, Rufus the Short of Burgundy entered the Order of the Willow, and received an Award of Arms. Cirion the Lefthanded, Gregor Tympanum and Pieter van Doorn (now Sir Pieter) received Awards of Arms. Maria of Oxenford inducted into the Order of the Laurel March - Ithriliel becomes deputy Kingdom Seneschal of the Midrealm. |
| AS XV | May- Ithriliel made Baroness Cleftlands by King Alen. May - Earl Laurelen won his second Crown Tournament for Countess Ithriliel (Grod Gondiris is the other finalist against Earl Laurelen, fighting for Lady Roxanne of Anglesey -- all in House Elamon). The last bout was fought by Grod with a double-bitted axe against Laurelen who wielded a short polearm. August - Princess Ithriliel and Prince Laurelen are co-Autocrats for Pennsic War IX in with House Elamon, and all of Cleftlands, as well as others, pitching in to make it work. October 4th - Coronation of Laurelen Darksbane and Ithriliel of Silverlake. Two sites were used for the event, Amasa Stone Chapel on CWRU's campus, and St. Helen and Constantine. Laurelen and Ithriliel autocrated. There was no tourney due to inclement weather. October- Grod Gondiris Knighted by King Laurelen during finals of Crown Tournament in Wurm Wald. October - Lady Roxanne of Anglesey becomes Kingdom Chirurgeon of the MidRealm. |

| 1983 | - Maria of Oxenford takes over the office of Exchequer from Ladislas Vulcu. - The Canton of Burg im Wald forms on Cuyahoga Community College's campus. Spring- 'Artsnotes' newsletter printed by MOA Phillipa including an excellent article on Baronies and Cantons to clear up questions about the nature of Burg im Wald and it's relationship to the Cleftlands. March 23rd - Music Performance Challenge at Dessert Revel with prizes for best novice performance donated by MoA Phillipa. Lady Anthea of Lindisfarne and Lord Oscar of Stonemoor demonstrate hammer dulcimer and psaltries. April 17th - Baronial Championship at Fairmount Presbyterian Church. |
| AS XVIII | May - Earl Alen wins his second Crown tournament, fighting for Genevieve du Vent Argent. August - Duke Laurelen takes Emrys of Gwyntarian as Squire at Pennsic War XII. October 15th - King Alen II and Queen Genevieve ascend thrones at Coronation in Cleftlands. Site is the 'Church of the Holy Oil Can' on CWRU's campus. October 15th - Court of Alen and Genevieve, Aiden Elfeadur entered into the Order of the Willow. October 15th - Duchess Ithriliel and Duke Laurelen inducted in Order of the Pelican at Coronation of Corin and Myfanwy. Both sets of Royalty wanted to do this so Duchess Ithriliel was inducted by King Alen in his last court, and Duke Laurelen was inducted by King Corin at his first court. December 3 - A Sundial made by Gladius is erected in front of CWRU's Thwing hall (on an existing , broken, light fixture) by Karl Ulfson and Pieter Van Doorn. The Sundial was donated to the University by a grateful Barony to commemorate ? years of meeting on campus. |

| AS XX | May - Duchess Ithriliel and Countess Valmai Arcalien n'Enessiel publish the Middle Kingdom Seneschal's Handbook, used for a decade until massively revised by later successors. May - Duke Alen wins his third Crown Tournament, fighting for Lady Isabella of Greycliffes. (Emrys of Gwyntarian is other finalist against Syr Alen, fighting for Countess Emmelynne. Another 'All-Cleftlands' and 'all-Elamon' finals.) August 1 - Llyrdwyl Merewenna becomes Minister of the Arts for Cleftlands October - King Alen III and Queen Isabella ascend MidRealm thrones. | 1986 | - Branwyn fitz Payne takes over the office of Exchequer from Maria of Oxenford. April - (From Northshield history): 4/1986 - To combat a perception of growing "Regionalism" in the kingdom, TRM Alen Elegil and Isabella introduce a kingdom law that prevents the use of regional names and titles, save those listed in the Kingdom seneschalorum. |
| AS XXI | May 1st - Karl Ulfson Knighted at SCA Twenty Year Celebration event in Houston Texas by King Alen III at assembled court of Royalty of entire Knowne Worlde. There was an invitational Joust held at this event attended by 3000 or so folk. It was a real tournament on horseback which included Quintain, banner-racing, sword-stroke, and ring-joust. It had been an open invitation to all the Knowne worlde's Chivalry, each of which would ride for a lady, of course. Of the approximately 400 or so active Knights in the Knowne Worlde at the time, just 11 were qualified and came to compete for the prize of a pair of solid gold spurs. Three of these Knights were from Cleftlands being King Alen, Duke Laurelen, and (soon to be Sir, having already been put on vigil) Karl Ulfson. Laurelen took the second place, having had the smallest ring slip from the lance-tip at the last moment in a hard-ridden tournament. A very good time was had by all despite 5 days of rain and indelible red-Texas-mud. May - Emrys wins Crown Tournament fighting for Countess Emmelyne. October 4th - King Emrys and Queen Emmelyne II ascend thrones at Coronation in Cleftlands. Emrys is only the third unbelted King to complete reign in entire MidRealm history. Site was the 'Church of the Holy Oil Can' on CWRU's campus. October 4th - Court. Theodric von Rostock and Hugh of Ravenwood awarded arms. |

Cleftlands experiences its first real political and inter-personal strife in over 20 years when a surprising and unpleasantly extreme minority-factionalism develops around the transfer Office of Seneschal. Talan Gwynek eventually takes the office with the happy acceptance of a very large majority of the group, and peace and cooperation is restored after months of needless discord. Ephraim ben Shlomo was the autocrat once more and Sarra Bossard and Elizabella took charge of the kitchen. January 27th - Regency Court of Edmund and Kateryn (Aibhilin regina and Tarquin rex) Pietro Nicolo da San Tebaldo received an Award of Arms, Cornelius the Sage received an Award of the Purple Fret and Seadna O'Bainainn entered the Order of the Willow. Chronicler's note: Unfortuantely, the Herald for this court never submitted the court report so the awards were not entered into the official record until actions were taken in December 2006/January 2005 to correct the clerical error. -Milesent January - Baronial Court of Laurelen and Ithriliel, Calum, Lefwenna de la Hay and Master Robin entered into the Order of the Winged Trine. February - Gaffer resigns as Celeste's Co-Chronicler. March 30th - Ephraim ben Schlomo entered into the Order of the Chivalry. April - Standard Bearer's Tournament. Aethelstan's Church provided the site for this triple-autocrated event. Pietro, Sarra Bossard and Rutgur autocrated while Ceinwen and Hauke provided the feast. Sir William Ransom entered the Order of the Doe's Grace and Hroar Stormghenr was elevated to the Order of the Laurel. | AS XXXIII | May 21st - Standard Bearer's Tournament. Held at the Highland Heights Armory, Sarra Bossard and Francesca were the autocrats. Master Aiden took care of the feast. This was the first Champion d'Arms Tournament. Conrad Schwartzwolf won the standard and became our first Champion d'arms. Wulfgar von Achen became the first Champion d'epe, and Edward Brackenburye the first Champion d'arc. This was also the 20th anniversary of the Cleftlands as a Barony. Summer - first Cleftlands Website created by Lyonnete Vibert. Hosted on a free ISP in Tulsa Oklahoma. September - Cleftlands Website moved to CWRU network. It's semi-permanent home. February 12th - Paint the Town Red demo, evening downtown AIDS benefit. Attendees included Lady Sarra Bossard, Shlomo and Elizabella, Milesent and Lyonnete... March 5th - demo at Lenox Primary school. Milesent attended and others... March 5th - A poorly written uninstall program wipes out the entire drive the Cleftlands Website is on. Backups provided by Aiden and Celeste get the site back up within hours. April 17th - Serena Kimbalwyke and Zuriel Nightshade are made Premieres of the Order of the White Lance, a new order for Equestrian activities made by outgoing King Dag and Queen Elayna. Sarah of the Erie Sea enters the Order of the Bronze Ring also. Other Cleftlanders honored that day were Vashti the Undocumented receiving her Award of Arms, the scroll being an exquisite promissory from Master Aiden and Pietro Nicolo da san Tebaldo entering the Order of the Willow. April 18th - Clairiel du Vent Argent hosts a 'Project Day' at her home. April 22nd - Bay Middle School demo. April 24th- Standard Bearer's Tournament. Site was the Solon Armory. Gaffer was the autocrat, and Dryw Sidon in charge of the kitchen. Conrad Schwartzwolf won the standard and the title Champion d'arms. Brice Colquhoun won champion d'epee, and Edward Brackenburye won champion d'arc again. Sir Ephraim presented The Cleftlands Battle Song he had written and several members of the populace decided to form a Dance Guild. Held at Aethelstan's church, Shlomo was the autocrat, his lady Elizabella the head cook. There was no site fee, a suggested donation of a non-perishable food item for the church's food bank. Lothar de Normandie won the standard, Edward Fitzranulf won Champion d'epe. The competition for champion d'arc was held before hand as no archery was allowed on site, and Edward Brackenburye was announced as the winner for the third year in a row at the event. Edward was also chosen as Champion d'arms. The Dance guild chose a new Primere Dancer, Angharad ferch Tangwystl. June - Lord Nial resigns as Demo Coordinator, Darius takes over the office. In a closely contested fight, Lothar de Normandie kept the title Standard Bearer, Edward Fitzranulf is again Champion d'epe and Ian Rassmussen is the new Champion d'arc. Stephan von Lubeck was an easy choice for Champion d'arms, competing in all three events. The Dance Guild selects Hawise de Cumberworth as their new Premiere Dancer. The event was remarkably well attended for a small local event, many Gwyntarian gentles attending as the site was the Stow armoury just over the Cleftlands-Gwyntarian border. There was also a Cleftlands vs Gwyntarian archery challenge. |
| AS XXXVI | -Baronial Directory printed, collected by myfanwy ferch Rhonwen. 148 names, 18 friends listed. myfanwy made an effort to reduce names that were no longer active in the Barony by removing anyone who did not contact her to confirm their information. This backfired as the directory was poorly received as several notable Cleftlanders were left out including Gladius, Robért de Cleftlands, Duke Sir Alen, Countess Isabella, etc. May 1st - Brangwen Snowden becomes Rapier Marshal for the barony, taking over the office from Edward Fitzranulf. May - Lady Alex chooses Li as a deputy Chatelaine. June 3rd- Archery Guild meeting, making targets. June 8, 9 and 10 - Northern Oaken War Maneuvers V. Crispin is the autocrat, Adeylen does feast. King Bardolph chose to attend the event even though it conflicted with Northshield Investiture. June 9th - Royal Court of King Bardolph. Awards of Arms given to Aethelstan and Dryw Sidon. | 2002 | January 16th - Karl von Kohn officially resigns as Minister of Arts and Sciences, handing over the office to Edward Brackenburye. January 26th - A Regular Event in Cleftlands: First Khan-Tact. Site is Bohemian Hall, Sir Ephraim is the autocrat. January 26th - Regency Court of Prince Valharic, Claire of the Cleftlands receives Award of the Dragon's Treasure. Gwen of the Cleftlands and Brian of the Cleftlands receive Awards of Arms, Cienwen and Lyonnete are entered into the Order of the Willow, and Vincent Furnier is entered into the Order of the Dragon's Tooth. January 26th - A Cleftlands Baronial Court is held for the first time within a Royal Court. Laurelen and Ithriliel induct the Baronial Charter Committee into the Order of the Winged Trine for producing a Baronial Charter in just 6 hours of meetings. This marks the first time anyone received the Winged Trine for a second time, Aiden Elfeadur and Clairiel du Vent Argent. Other inductees included: Aiden Elfeadur, Alaric le Fevre, Clairiel du Vent Argent, Darius abd al-Wajid, Lyonnete Vibert, Nial the Wanderer of Bork, Rutgur von Stuttgart and Timothy Woodhill. February 10th - Archery Guild meeting, officers chosen. February 16th - Hafla at local coffee house organized by Troupe Hareem Sha'reem. April 4th - Dance Guild meeting at Euclid Public Library April 11th - Duke Laurelen and Duchess Ithriliel resign as Baron and Baroness Cleftlands 4 weeks before 24th anniversary of the Barony, upon receiving a sudden and deposing directive from the Crown. April 13th - Coronation of Alys and Valharic held in the Cleftlands. Site was the Bohemian Hall, Darius and Snowden Autocrated, Ceinwen did the feast. Byzantine theme in honor of Valharic's persona. John of Cleftlands (Yayyi) authorized as a fighter. Valharic authorized as a fencer. Laurelen informs His Majesty Ragnvaldr and His Highness Valharic that he and Ithriliel will not "step down" in court, nor hear testimonials and do not wish to become Barons of the Court. The event goes well, as planned, despite many of the populace being shocked by the deposition of their Baron and Baroness. Rumors and tales of all sorts begin to circulate the event resulting in many Cleftlands people being visibly shaken and upset. Laurelen and Ithriliel calmly attend the event (Ithriliel spends the entire day running Troll and check-in with Lady Clairiel) as planned, sitting at feast that evening with their household. April 13th - Court of Valharic and Alys. Seadna O'Bainian made a Baroness of the Court. Dulcia Wylde and Achall Ui Neill receive awards of arms. Calum is named Queen's Champion. April 17th - King Valharic and Queen Alys announce the resignation of Laurelen and Ithriliel at regular Baronial meeting. No Vicar is named. They set an accelerated date of two weeks for members of the barony to write letters of intent for the position of Baron or Baroness. The continuing situation following the loss of Ithriliel and Laurelen as Baron and Baroness is the most trying and "world-shaking" time in the history of Cleftlands from its beginning. Cleftlands here begins a journey which will make it different. The future only can know for better or worse; if the past; the proud history of the Barony and all those many who made it among the greatest, most influential, legendary in battle, and most storied; will be, indeed, forgotten. May 5th - Dance Demo for Stone Creed Grove at the River Grove Picnic Area of the North Chagrin Reservation. Kathryn verch Rhys leads the dancing, Hawise de Cumberworth, Jeanie MacDugal and Dryw Sidon attend. May 9th - Dance Guild meeting at Euclid Public Library, 7 attend, Master Aiden teaches La Volta. July 24th - A brief Royal court was held at Baronial meeting wherin Their Majesties announced that the new Baron and Baroness elect of the Cleftlands are Ephraim and Madelaine August 13th - A special Royal court was held by HRM Alys (delaying the Queen's Tea) to give Maynard Wolven his Award of Arms two days early as Maynard and his family were leaving Pennsic that day and leaving the country for another year. There was some difficulty getting Maynard to the Royal Encampment and back into a tunic (he'd already changed into modern clothing for the ride home). August 13th - The Compangie de fer Savant is formed as a household dedicated to the rapier arts, scholarship and service. The founding members are Edward Fitzranulf, Pietro Nicolo da San Tebaldo, Timothy Woodhill and Wulfgar Horathius Von Achen. Fitzranulf is the Captain of the Company. August 15th? - Cleftlands Baronial Fighting Unit awarded the Dragon's Tooth on the Pennsic Battlefield. Note this Pennsic no Cleftlands Standard was carried into battle. In a show of honor, the Standard Bearer, Lothar de Normandie put away the standard when Laurelen and Ithrilliel resigned and did not take it up again until there was a new Baron of the Cleftlands. This is the first reported abscence of the standard since Duke Syr Laurelen started the Standard Bearer's Tourney ten years previous. August 24th - Demo for CWRU Medieval Society Activities Fair. Lady Sarra, Pietro, Edward Brackenburye, Milesent, Jess, Gina and Tod attended as well as several CWRUMS Students. Reportedly a great sucess, lots of students signed up for more information. August 31 - September 2nd - Baycrafters Rennaisance Fantasy Craft Faire. Our Annual Demo went very well with large attendance. Lady Alex provided three prizes for the tourney which drew many fighters, and Clairiel drew door prizes for all attendees. They called forward the Baronial Champion d'arc, Champion d'arms, Champion d'epé and Standard Bearer, thanked them for their service and asked these four gentles if it was their intention to continue serving as Champions. They said aye and took their places behind Ephraim and Madelaine. A representative of the Barony of the Debatable Lands came forward with a gift from Baron Tofi and Countess Genvieve for the occaision. September 30th? - Demo for Valley Forge High School. Lady Alex, Nial, myfanwy and Maðog attended. October 5th - CWRU Medieval Society games day October 4, 5 and 6th - Ohio Mart Demo at Stan Hewett Hall. In Gwyntarian territory, as usual there were several Cleftlanders in attendance at this demo including: Alda, Pietro, Timothy, Kathryn verch Rhys, Gladius, Jackie, Mathais and Vincent.. October 8th - January Event staff meeting at Muldoon's Saloon October 8th - Scribal Symposium at Master Aiden's. Master Aiden produced (with help) thirty cards displaying different period pigments to be used for demos and as color guides. Aiden, Hely, Milesent, Alda, myfanwy, Elena, and Edward Brackenburye attended. October 9th - We rent a third room for dancing at our regular baronial meeting. The Middle Eastern Dancers primarily used the room which is across the courtyard from our regular rooms. November 8th - Demo for Catebury Elementary in Cleveland Heights, reportedly a difficult demo. | 2003 | January 14th - Scribes meet at Master Aiden's January 14th - Archery Guild meeting at the home of Emry and Regan January 25th - A Regular Event in Cleftlands - A Mid-Winter Hunt. Site was the Boehemian hall. Snowden and Maria were Autocrats, James le Hauke headed the feast kitchen. The feast was meat-heavy with courses containing rabbit, duck, chicken, white fish, and venison. Lyonnete organized an heraldic scavenger hunt with the help of Katerine de Val, Cornelious the Sage won the scavenger hunt, Gina placed second. Conrad organized the pool tournement, there was a fencing tournement as well. Classes were very well attended, organized by Celeste. There were four entries in the Scribal competition organized by Edward Brackenburye, and six judges, all C&I willows, Evergreens or Laurels. Sir Alaric took Crispin dela Rochefoucauld as a squire at the feast. There was plenty of dancing in the evening. February 1st - A day of Games with the CWRU Medieval Society. Reportedly a successful event for the fledgeling group, held in Wade Fireside. Lyonnete attended in armour though there was no fighting. There was a close competition for the prize: a viking chess set. February 5th - The first of a series of Calligraphy and Illumination classes to be taught at our regular meeting throughout the month of February. Guenhwyfar MacEwen taught a beginning scribal class. 13 new scribes participated in making blank scrolls. February 10th - Standard Bearer's Event staff site walkthrough February 11th - Scribal symposium at House Laliel. Master Aiden taught how to make quill pens and much fun was had playing with alternative writing materials. February 12th - Class at Baronial meeting. Successfully using the human figure in Illumination, taught by Milesent Vibert. February 18th - Archery Guild meeting. New Officers were Chosen. Elayne von Koeningsburg of Dragon's Flight is guildmistress, Jared of Coventry her deputy, Vashti is secretary/tresurer and Darius is the Vigntener? Officer in charge of submitting scores, apparently. February 19th - Baronial Meeting. Class on Knotwork taught by myfanwy. Sir Alaric took Crispin's oath of fealty as his squire after meeting in a reverent ceremony, he asked squires present to express what they felt being a squire ment. February 24th - Robért de Cleftlands moved to New Orleans for a job offer. Robért specifically requested not to be moved to the friends section of the directory, prefering the title 'Cleftlands Foreign Legion'. March 1st - live action Fox and Geese game for the CWRU Medieval Society held at Wade Commons. No Cleftlanders in attendance, though several students were there and reportedly had a good time. March 8th - Needleworkers Guild meeting at Lyonnete's home. Several guild projects were discussed including The Midrealm Hood project, Midrealm Archers Favors, baronial fighter/fencer tabards and archer quivers. March 11th - Scribes at Lailiel March 22nd - Northern Oaken Arts and Sciences Competition held in Brendoken. Several Cleftlanders entered the competition, Elena, Lady Alex, Syr Theo, Milesent, Alda and even Robért de Cleftlands sent an entry with Alda. Their six entries comprised a third of the total entries. Also Guenhwyfar, Olwen, Lyonnete and Elena helped out with the scribal effort for the evening's court, Edward Brackenburye and Lyonnete judged and Bronwen fitzPayne helped register entries and served time in the tally room as well. Serena, Edward Fitzranulf and Syr Theo taught classes. March 22nd - Court of His Magesty Tarrach. Olwen ferch Rhys was entered into the Order of the Willow and Guenhwyvar MacEwen into the Order of the Evergreen for their efforts in the area of calligraphy and illumination. March 26th - Sir Alaric taught pewter casting at Dessert Revel. Also a Baronial court where Olwen ferch Rhys received her Order of the Willow from the previous weekend. March 29th - Demo for Brownies at River Grove in the metroparks. Lady Alex and Marsaili did much of the organizing. Lyonnete, Mathais, Alda, Guenhwyvar, Kathrein verch Rhys, Hawise, D'lante, Milesent and another guy attended. Well received. April 11th? - Demo, Lady Alex attended April 19th - Standard Bearer's Event. Crispin dela Roucefauld won the standard, Garvin the slow is the new Champion d'epé and Champion d'arms, and Stephan Von Lübeck is the Champion d'arc. April 19th - Baronial court, The Order of the Winged Trine is officially closed, it will be replaced by a new baronial award in time. Edward Brackenburye and Guenhwyfar MacEwen were recognized for their work organizing Scribal classes, Lady Alex for starting the Glass Guild and Lord Timothy for being Lord Timothy.

May 25th - Crown Tournement - Four Cleftlands Couples competed: Lord Edward Brackenburye and Lady Milesent, Captain Conrad Schwartzwulf and Lady Katerina Mahler, The Honerable Lord Vincent Furnier and Lady Deidre, and Sir Theodric von Rostok and Lady Alexandra la Noire. Sir Theo was one of the two finalists. May 27th? - Needleworkers Guild meeting to sew Midrealm hoods. We were pledged to produce 30, cut out 39, sewed 15 that night. Madelaine, Aldamoureis, Lyonnete and Milesent attended. June 6 - Northern Oaken War Maneuvers VII, site was the Ukranian camp again. Stephan von Lübeck was autocrat with co-autocrats Lady Alex and Wulfgar. Matheus headed the kitchen, he had not been a cook previously and took the trial by fire introduction well with much help from Ealdred, Clairiel and company. June 7 - Court of His Majesty Pieter held on the NOWM Battlefield, Lothar de Normandie entered into Red Company. June 7 - Court of His Majesty Pieter. Cleftlands Needleworker's Guild awarded the Purple Fretty for making more than their share of hoods. Akizuki Chako, Mirrim Shinrone, Kiriena Kirova Doch' Rysenkova awarded arms, Alexandra la Noire and Regan of Blacksilver awarded the purple fret, Nial and Zuriel entered into the Order of the Silver Oak, Brice Colquhoun entered into the Company of the Bronze Ring, Duchess Emelyn and Guenhwyvar MacEwen entered into the Order of the Dragon's Heart, Conrad Schwartzwulf put on vigil for knighthood. July 2 - Baronial meeting, Lord Nial resigned as Seneshal, Stephan von Lübeck will be the new seneshal. Other candidates included: Darius, Milesent and Pietro. July 9 - Baronial court at meeting, Stephan atte Smythe recieved his AoA given the previous July, Mirrim Shinrone recieved her AoA given at NOWM, and Duchess Emelyne recieved the scroll for her Dragon's Heart. August 2 through 16 - Pennsic War. Sir Karl recieved his backlog Knighting scroll and Sir Laurelen recieved his backlog AoA (only 26 years late! Calligraphy and illumination by Milesent). The goat clan recieved Dragon's Hearts for their many years of service in the Pennsic Data trailer (Antarcus, Celeste), Jared of Coventry recieved his Award of Arms August 16 - Conrad Schwartzwolf entered into the Order of the Chivalry after the unbelted Champions battle (of which he was a commander) at Pennsic War. August 29th through September 1 - Baycrafters Faire and demo September 6 and 7 - Euclid City Faire - a well attended and recieved demo. On friday night setup the security for the faire site had not shown, fair administrator asked Lord Nial if he would keep an eye on things, Nial did so and in gratitude the city gave us a discount on our rent for our regular meeting site (One week's rent?) October 4, 5 and 6 - OhioMart Demo. WHile a Gwyntarian Demo, many Cleftlanders attended including Edward Brackenburye, Milesent, Hawise... (personal note, EB proposed to Milesent at this demo) October 11 - Sir Ephraim took Lyonnete Vibert as a squire at the Hastings 1066 event (In Three Towers, Mansfield?) October 25 - CWRU Medieval Society mid-semester event October 31 - The Cleftlands Website suffers a catastrophic hard-drive failure. No data was able to be recovered. The last back up of the website was three months ago, mid July. November 4 - New Hard Drive arrived from Dell for the Cleftlands server, installed without a hitch. Re-Installed Windows 2000 Server and service packs... then found out the net gear gigabit fiber optic network card driver would not load with Service Pack 4 installed. Eventualy the webmistress's coworker Jerry was able to get the card working, however there still seems to be a permissions problem. Regular html files are working, but the asp files are not. Problem exists either in the library files (unlikely) or in the Access Database (more likely). November 16 - 15th Century Burgundian music concert at Harkness Chapel by the Case Early Music group. Many Cleftlanders attended. Noelle (Molly) was one of the musicians. December - Pietro set up a website for the January event on his own server, Webmistress set up a re-direct on this site. December 19 - Dance Demo for Valley Forge High School. Milesent, Nial, and Yayyi (Genghis John, SCA name is actually Michelleto Capelli) attended. |

January 13 - Scribes at House Laliel January 29th - Milesent Vibert becomes the Oaken Regional signet. Something of a controversy, myfanwy ferch Rhonwen was the Oaken signet, and was asked to resign by the Kingdom Signet. She was also asked not to train her sucessor. myfanwy and several other scribes are quite upset at the change of office. There were other scribes throughout the region (most, but not all, from groups other than Cleftlands) who were unhappy with myfanwy's performance as signet. January 31st - A Regular Event in Cleftlands: The Feast of Saint Clairiel. Edward Fitzranulf and Pietro were co-autocrats, though Fitz had mundane scheduling problems and so as the event neared Pietro had to take on more duties. In all a very sucessful event, Katheryn verch Rhys was head cook for the six course feast that included Octopus, Salmon, Chicken, Beef and Pork dishes, and a great ammount of broccoli. Hely D'Isigny and Aiden were in charge of the beautiful lunch counter. Lothar de Normandie organized a pas d'arms with a ladies gallery. The North Oaken Rapier championships were held at this event, Garvin the Slow came in second place. Lyonnete was shire reeve, Jared of Coventry was troll for the first time. There was a short baronial court before feast where Aldamoureis was recognized with our as-yet unnamed new Baronial award. First performance of the new Cleftlands Choir during feast. The Case Western Reserve University Collegium Musicum performed period music on shwam, sacbut and recorder for feast. There was a miracle play also written by Fitz about Saint Clairiel. Theresa stared as Clairiel while Clairiel watched from the sidelines. February 4 - Baronial Meeting. Stephan announces that the office of Seneschal's Deputy is open (as Milesent is now Oaken signet), as well as Chiurgeon and Minister of Children. Marsailli, who was the Mistress of Children, has been unable to attend meetings or events lately due to her mundane life. Small controversy as Marsailli was not properly informed that the barony was looking for a replacement for her office. February 4 - Archery Guild elections at Baronial meeting. Jared of Coventry is chosen as the new guild leader. February 10 - Scribes at House Laliel. Master Aiden demonstrates making Cochenial Lake pigment. myfanwy gives the Oaken Signet's records and blank scrolls to Milesent's keeping. February - Stephan von Lübeck is finally warented as our new seneschal. April 24th - Standard Bearer's Competition: Snowden autocratted, James l'Huake was head cook, a lovely day at Camp Cheerful. James Barkley won Champion d'arc, Lie de Curamac won Champion d'epé, Artair won Champion d'arms for doing well on the heavy list and shooting remarkably well on the archery field despite having only 5 arrows. June 4-5 - Northern Oaken War Maneuvers VIII - Wulfgar was autocrat again, very well attending with perfect weather, approximately 575 people attended the event, we had Their Royal Magesties and His Highness Brannos, as well as Their Magesties of Aethelmarc. innovations: the Hafla was on the battlefield, the pig roast on the beach had the food cooked on site with three large barbeque pits manned from thursday on dug at the old Hafla site. June 4th - Court of Their Magesties Felix and Madeine - Siggurd, Matheus, Hawise, Wlfeda, Almathea awarded arms, Arianna recieved a purple fret, Jared of Coventry entered into the Order of the Dragon's Barb, Ealdred of Gwyntarian entered into the Order of the Dragon's Heart, Edward Brackenburye entered into the Order of the Greenwood Company. Summer - June or July, Katerina Mahler becomes the new Mistress of Youth officialy. Small controversy, the previous Mistress of Youth, Marsaili, had become inactive due to mundane committments and was not properly informed that she was loosing the office because of her inactivity. August - Pennsic War, Court of Their Magesties Felix and Madeliene - Jared of Coventry, Caius awarded arms. Cleftlands Scribes Guild awarded Purple Fretty for the fourth time. Three Bear's Friend, Cirion the Lefthanded awarded a very deserved Dragon's Barb. Sept. 4-6 - Baycrafters Rennaisance and Art Faire Demo - This marks the last year for the Cleftlands doing this Demo, next year it will be handled by the Shire of Falcon's Quarry. Sept. 25? - Simple Day (in Constellation) Court of Their Magesties Felix and Madeliena. Noelle la Chaucerie awarded arms, Milesent entered into the Order of the Evergreen. October 30 - Crown Tournement (in Constellation?) - Sir Alaric le Fevre is victorious against Duke Sir Edmund in the final round, winning the honour of crowning Noelle la Chaucerie Princess of the Midrealm. Duke Syr Laurelen was in attendance, auspiciously marking this the 25th aniversary of when he won his first crown. October 13 - Gwyntarian Return of the Empire Event - Neighboring event well attended by Cleftlands populace. Clairiel manned (goddessed?) the list table. Vincent Furnier won the heavy tournement, with the prize going to Lyonnete for 'Showing the most heart' on the field. Featured an exhibit of Gwyntarian history including pictures from Alen and Isabella's coronation and the legend of the Goddess Clairiel. The Cleftlands Choir performed at court with Her Highness Noelle leading (as was planned before Her Highness became Her Highness.) First court of Their Highnesses Alaric and Noelle - Artair MacNeacail and Birna of Cleftlands awarded arms. | 2005 | January - Edward Brackenburye resigns as Minister of Arts and Sciences, he is replaced by Dulcia Wylde. Reportedly a difficult decision, 5 members of the populace applied and all were good, qualified candidates. January 10 - Dance Guild meeting at Euclid Public Library January 11 - Scribes at House Lailiel. Aiden makes ink. January - The Sundial donated by the Barony to Case Western Reserve University in 1983 is found mysteriously to be missing. Gladius approached the University's office of Maintenance and discovered the pedistal it was attached was being repaired. Gladius took custody of the sundial while the repairs are made to effect some repairs of his own to it. January 19 - Regular meeting. It is announced that the Barony is low on cash having just $146 after paying for the tent, the year's rent and the January Event. Additionally, the rent for the Shore Center has been increased by $30 a month. January 29 - A Regular Event in Cleftlands: Brendoken Skirmishes. Edward Fitzranulf emerged the victor. Also Diredre MacGowan recieved her Willow (from Coronation), in a touching ceremony Master Calum gave Lothar the tabbard he wore when he was Queen's Champion, and, to the amusement of all, His Majesty Alaric recieved his new award of arms scroll. May 7 - You can go back to Constinople event in Thistle; Master Aiden teaches period pigments May 8 - Champion d'arc competition held at the Chardin archery range (home of Cristopher and Cherise's parents). August 21 - Pennsic War ends, the Midrealm won the war for the first time in 9 years, victory is largely credited to Alaric and Noelle's leadership and winning of many allies. September 24 - Michaelmas Ball and Dance Collegium event held at Grace Luthran Church in Cleveland heights. Hawise de Cumberworth was the autocrat, Katherien verch Rhys was the gatekeeper, Ealdred of Gwyntarian headed the kitchen, Master Aiden coordinated classes. Featured an unusual 'all day' feast with courses served at noon, two and five o'clock. 85 attendees made for a lightly attended event, however guests came from Aethelmearc and Pentamere for the day. Clairiel decorated the great hall with fresh flowers and herbs from her garden. September ? - Seneschal announces at Baronial meeting that we have found a new meeting site, reasonably priced and close to our current site that includes many desired ammenities. Unfortunately shortly after the announcement it was discovered that Lord Nial (who had been negotiating the site) was mis-informed about the site availability; it was not available after 5pm on week days. Her Majesty ended the court with a touching song to Alaric before the crowning of Their heirs. October 1 - Court of Their Majesties Edmund and Kateryn - Alaric le Fevre and Noelle la Chauciere made a count and countess, Noelle entered into the Order of the Rose. October or November - A database malfunction brings down the Cleftlands website; Milesent is able to comment out a portion of the site's library file which automatically posts hit information to a database which brings the site back up in a matter of minutes, however she is now unable to update any of the database driven pages on the site including the officers page and Directory. Katherin verch Rhys and Madelaine Bouvier co-autocrated, Angharad ferch Tangwystl headed the kitchen. Site was Recher Hall. January 28 - Court of Their Majesties Edmund and Kateryn: ser Nick, Knute awarded purple frets. February 11 - Demo for the Boy Scouts in Kirtland. Syr Theo, Sir Conrad, Edward Brackenburye, Lady Alex, Katerina Mahler and Milesent Vibert attended. February 25 - Two Cleftlands Teams participate in the Pentemere Golden Seamstress competition for the first time. The teams were "A Six Pack of Mice" captained by Baroness Madelaine, with Lyonnete, Milesent, Edward, Pietro and Gabrielle and "Sins and Needles" captained by Lady Sarra Bossard with Constanza, Maggie, Ceinwen, so-and-so and Edward Fitzranulf. Both teams represented their Barony well. March 1 - Regular Baronial meeting is held at Recher Hall for the first time; this is a trial use of the site for the month of March to determine if the Barony will move there. The site boasts several improvements including a lower price and larger space and is just a few blocks from the Shore Center. March 25 - Royal University of the Midrealm in Brendoken (Smithville, OH) - Milesent and Lyonnete teach classes, in the evening court of King Edmund IV and Queen Kateryn IV Jared of Coventry entered into the Order of the Willow. Longtime friend of the Cleftlands Katarina Peregrine elevated to a Baroness of the court. March 29th - Dessert Revel - Katherien Verch Rhys announced as the new Cleftlands Seneschal. Stephan, the outgoing seneschal, baked a cake of the Baronial arms to commemorate the occaison. It is announced that we will continue to meet at Recher hall in April. April 4 - Announcement made on the Cleftlands email mailing list; Cleftlist, by Katherien Verch Rhys - we will be finishing out the year with Recher hall as our meeting site April 4 - Needleworkers Guild at Milesent's home April 8 - Cleftlands Standard Bearer's Event - Lady Vashti was the autocrat, Jonathan was feast steward (a first for both, Vashti had co-autocrated before), Dulcia was the gate keeper. The site was the National Guard armoury. Weather was bright, windy and just a little chill. There was an A&S Solar organized by Milesent and several merchants. The event was well attended drawing many friends from neighboring Brendoken. April 8 - Court of Ephraim and Madelaine, Baron and Baroness of the Cleftlands: THL Steven Silverthorne won the standard in a hotly contested tournament. THL Ealdred of Gwyntarian won champion d'epeé and Lord Jaret of Coventry won champion d'arc in a sudden-death shoot off after tying with previous champion Lord Christopher in the competition. The champion d'arms was selected as Lord Cynwrig; marking the first time this honour has been given to a non-heavy combatant. April 19 - Fighting outdoors on the lawn of Gateway Nursing Home (Across the street from Recher hall) occured for the first time. The space prooved useable. April 26 - Dessert Revel - Rapier combat class taught by Brice. April 29 - Regional A&S Competition in the Marche of Three Towers - Lady Sarra, Edward Brackenburye and Milesent Vibert attended. Edward took over as North Oaken Regional Minister of A&S, Milesent entered the Pentathalon and scored high enough to go on to kingdom with her 5 entries. |
| AS XLI | May 1 - Baronial Officers meeting at Gwydion's home. Katheryn verch Rhys's first officers meeting as Seneschal. Katrine du Val, Brangwen Snowden, Calum, Milesent, Stephan von Lübeck, Gwydion and Katherien attended. Eastwatch Seneschal Vasilli and Pursuivant Monty were late arrivals. Issues discussed included Eastwatch's status and the spending of Baronial funds for several items of equipment for the barony.
May 2 - Needleworkers at Constanza's home May - Lyonnete announces on Cleftlist her intention to resign as Needleworker's Guildmistress and that Lady Constanza has agreed to take over the position. May 6 - Return of the Fun with Weasels event; chilly, windy but sunny day, site was the Geauga county fairgrounds. Well attended with approximately 115 gentles on site. Autocrat was Seadna O'Bainnian with deputy Autocrat Cherise. Vasili headed the lunch tavern. Rutgur won the Iron Weasel competition, Baron Sir Ephraim became the premiere Wire Weasel (auspicious as the good Sir was the premiere Iron Weasel years ago.) Pietro won the A&S competition with a lovely mock funerary brass of a weasel knight complete with paper and chalk to make rubbings. No Baronial court was held as the event was in Eastwatch, not Baronial territory, however Baron Ephraim announced that after careful deliberation and polling of both the Eastwatch members and Cleftlands membership that we are moving forward to submitt paperwork to adopt Eastwatch as a Canton of the Cleftlands with all three counties; Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula. May 9 - Scribes at Lailiel; Milesent demonstrates Persian gold sprinkling technique May 10 - Regular baronial meeting; Baron Ephraim repeats the announcement about Eastwatch at the event; Jared of Coventry proposes to Maggie Webbe during Buisness meeting. May 31 - Dessert Revel - In an attempt to renew interest in Dessert Revels, Seneschal Katherien verch Rhys proposes themed dessert revels. This was the first; the theme was declared to be German (in honor of the previous senescha Stephan being in Germany). Theme is mostly embraced by the cooks. June 9-10 - Northern Oaken War Maneuvers 10 - held once again at the Ukranian camp, Snowden and Wulfgar are co-autocrats, Jonathan headed the feast kitchen. Katrine del Val and Bastian Eychner are married on friday night before the torch light tourney. His Majesty announces that the sword of state, Oathbinder, will be re-forged June 28 - Dessert Revel - Second themed Dessert Revel; theme set as Japan in honor of Gwyntarian's Japanese-themed event July 1. Theme is largely ignored save by the cooks. July 3 - Demo at the Fairport Harbor Mardi Gras - attendees included Cherise, Christopher, Merlin, Pietro, Dostksa, Alienor, James Barkley, Sarra Bossard, Tomsaine, Jared, Maggie Webbe, Ersebet, Celeste, Hawise, Brice, Sarah of the Erie Sea, Sir Conrad, Syr Theo, Lady Alex, Lyonnete, Milesent, Welfeada, Bernard, Eva, Monty, others. The crowd was light, probably 40 to 60 onlookers, but the demo was still an overwhelming success. A plaque was presented to the shire of Eastwatch in appreciation. July 5 - Regular meeting - Milesent teaches a class on Persian Costume July 8 - Brawl at the Crooked Dragon Tavern event in Falcon's Quarry - Farþen won "most devious", Stephan von Lübeck won best shtick. Sarah Erie Sea and Brice tied for first in the rapier brawl, Farþen, Birna and Bastion authorized for siege equipment, Crispin authorized great sword and Artair authorized pole arm, Sirs Theo and Conrad authorized rapier, Brice earned his spurs as a squire July 10 - Baronial Officers meeting at Dulcia's home July 12 - Regular meeting; Baronial directory published (three years after previous edition; also created by Milesent.) Approximately 312 names. This edition does not separate out 'friends' from those who live in the barony. Directory offered via email as a pdf file; 27 Cleftlanders recieve the directory electronically. July 14 - Demo at 4H Camp Whitewood, Milesent, Edward Brackenburye, Katerine del Val, Bastian, Christopher and Cherise attend. July 18 - Dmitrii figures out why the Cleftlands website won't update and Sir Karl fixes the permission problem that had been preventing Milesent from making changes to the on-line Directory, Officers and Pictures page. Milesent begins correcting approximately 9 months of delayed updates and buys Dmitrii a beer. August - Pennsic War XXXV - as always a place of notable happenings. There was a Baronial party for the third year in a row (now a time honored tradition) that was remarkably better attended than previous years. Crispin was elevated to the Order of the Gold Mace, Farthen inducted into Red Company. September 2 - Demo at Geauga County Fair - well attended and well recieved despite constant cold rain and the demo location being a very muddy display pen (demo occurred instead in the bleachers on the narrow strip in front of the first row of seats.) The highlight of the demo was an entertaining and informative rapier dueling demo by Fitzranulf and Pietro. Attendees included: Vasilli, Nial, Maddoc, Bernard, Hawise, Constanza, Pietro, Sarra, Milesent, Edward Brackenburye, Syr Theo, Lady Alex, Dosta, Dosta's husband, Edward Fitzranulf. October 2 - Demo for the Gateway Nursing Home, important for relations with the home as they allow the Barony to fight on their back lawn (which is across the street from Recher Hall) free of charge. They asked for a demo on the Crusades. Countess Isabella spoke at length about the Crusades in history, Edward Brackenburye, Duke Alen and Milesent assisted. October 9 - Afternoon demo for Lifelong Learning in Berea; Clairiel, Alys, Cassia and Bronwen fitz Payne attended. October 10 - Scribe's at House Lailiel. Milesent, Aiden and Hely attended, Aiden made Madder Lake pigment with four different chalks (marble dust, soda, eggshell and tin) demonstrating how the specific chemistry of the chalk affected the pigment. October 12 - Angharad hosts an east side cook's gathering in her home, Katherin, Constanza, Erszebet, Maggie and Angharad attended. Discussed recipes for Mortrews. Group plans on making this a regular weekly gathering to research and try period recipes. October 16 - Baronial Officer's meeting at Angharad and Calum's home, officers attending included: Ser Nick (youth combat marshal), Stephan von Lübeck (iron key and Regional seneschal), Farðgn (knight's marshal), Kathrien (seneschal), Nuala (deputy seneschal), Calum (exchequer), Jared (Castilian), Gwydion (Pursuivant), Dulcia (A&S Minister), Sir Ephraim (Baron), Crispin (quartermaster), Milesent (Webminister, deputy Chronicler), Angharad and Maggie (representing the populace). Nuala was announced as Katherine's new deputy. Issues discussed included Baronial succession, candidates for Demo Coordinator, new list poles for the Heavy list, and event bids. A new policy starting with the January event is to accept Feast bids separate from event bids. October 25 - Dessert Revel - Light attendance, Ephraim and Madelaine announce process for Baronial polling and tentative schedule for the polling for the new Baron and Baroness of the Cleftlands. October 26 - Seneschal Katherin verch Rhys sends notice to the Cleftlands mailing list, Cleftlist, of the updated polling dates. Letters of intent due between December 25th and January 25th with polling occuring in February. Eastwatch members will be polled as well as Cleftlands members, also non-member polls will be available for all who wish from Katherin. November - Lady Katrine du Val steps down as Demo Co-ordinator, Lady Alexandra la Noire takes over the position. November 28 - Demo for Cub scouts at Eastlake Elementary school: Lady Alex, Sir Theo, Bernard, Eva, Gwydion, Christopher, Cherise, Dulcia and Milesent attend; very well recieved by the scouts and their parents. December 6 - Seneschal Katherin verch Rhys announces on the Cleftlist (and later at the meeting that night) that there will be fighter practices on December 20th and 27th in the lower hall at Recher, but no buisness meeting. December 13th will remain the Dessert Revel for the month. Fighters, who have long been unhappy with the reduced number of practices in November and December due to holidays recieved the news happily. December 6 - Stephan von Lübeck invites a number of fighters from the Barony of Red Spears to our fight practice. To accomodate the larger number of fighters, the rapier combatants give up half their list so that there are four equally sized lists; three for heavy combat and one for rapier. There is a good turn out of rapier fighters as well (5 or 6?), but no complaints from the rapier fighters about the reduced space. The armoured combatants were very happy with approximately 26 combatants rotating through the three lists. December 25 - The window for Baronial candidates to submitt their letters of intent opens, the window will close January 25th. |
| 2007 | January - A long-missing court report from June 1996 is re-created and submitted to the Pale Herald (Alys Katherine) so that the awards can finally officially be entered into Precedence. Thanks for this effort go to Vashti, Gwydion, Alsy and Milesent. January - Sometime in January, Count Alaric approaches the Needleworker's guild mistress Constanza about volunteering (or being volunteered) to make a set of houpelandes for Their Majesties Bardolph and Brigh. January 4 - Milesent and Edward are the first official candidates for Baron and Baroness January 17 - Conrad and Katarina are added to the Baronial ballot. The new carpet for our fighters obtained by Artair is used for the first time, the fighters are very happy. January 18 - Artair and Birna are added to the Baronial ballot January 23 - Crispin and Giovanna are added to the Baronial ballot January 25 - Submission period for Baronial candidates closed. January 27 - A Regular Event in Cleftlands: Pesky Peasants - Bernard Strumere debuts as autocrat with Lady Alex as his capable deputy. Hely d'Isigny debuted as Feast steward, the site, the Berea fairgrounds, did not have a kitchen, just one small sink, a small household stove and no real refridgeration. Despite handicaps the event was a remarkable success and the feast rightly praised. January 27 - Court of Their Highnesses Dag and AnneMarie - Ylaria is the first Cleftlander to receive the Silver Acorn, Vriele receives the Baton, Dostia, Vedrix awarded arms, Christopher, Cherise and Christina awarded Purple Frets, Jezebel enters the Order of the Willow and Angharad enters the Order of the Evergreen. January 31 - Dessert Revel and Baronial Candidate 'Meet and Greet' - The meet and greet is very cassual with no formal structure, all candidates were present as well as a large showing by the populace. Jezebel received her Willow scroll in Baronial court. Milesent taught a class on writing A&S Documentation. February 14 - Meeting cancelled due to snow, guild meetings on Tuesday (Needleworker's and Scribe's) were also canceled. February 17 - Syr Theo takes over as General of the Dragon Army at Winter's End event in Fenix. Many Cleftlanders braved poor weather to attend the event and show their support. February 27 - Needleworker's guild at Maggie's home: Lyonnete teaches a class on how to sew fur to aid in the finishing of the Houpelandes the guild is producing for Their Majesties. February 28 - Dessert Revel, leadership of the Musician's Guild officially changes from Noelle and Matheus to Lady Alex and Zsof. Milesent teaches a class on how to judge at an A&S competition. March 1 - Deadline to submit Baronial polls March 3 - Demo for the Parma Hospital 'A Rennaisance Evening' (held in Solon): many attended including Lady Alex who organized the demo, Bytor, Edward, Milesent, Artair, Birna, Tomisane, Dulcia, Gillis, Sabine, Shlomo, Pietro, Sarra Bossard, Elissa, Jared, Maggie, Hawise, Katherin verch Rhys, Sarah True, and Brice. A marked success and as a bonus the Cleveland Museum of Art's 'Art to Go' exhibit had six pieces from the museum's armour collection which demo attendees were alowed to inspect while the members of the public were eating dinner. There is talk of arranging a field trip to the museum to view more items from the collection . March 7 - Brice announces that he is stepping down as Baronial Marshal of Fence, Cynwrig is taking the post. March 24 - Two of the Baronial candidate couples are summoned to Grand Tournament of the Unicorn in Oxford, OH to speak with Their Highnesses. April 3 - Needleworker's at Lyonnete's April 10 - Scribe's at Lailiel, Aiden teaches a workshop on gilding and gilded calligraphy April 17 - Needleworker's at Nuala's April 21 - North Oaken A&S Competition and Baronial Standard Bearer's competition. Co-Autocrats were Dulcia and Milesent. Angharad headed the kitchen and Dmitrii was the Gatekeeper. Edward Brackenburye's first faire as North Oaken Regional Minister of A&S. Maggdelen Webbe took over the Baronial Gold Key from Branwen Fitz Payne. Beautiful weather made for an excellent day. there were 27 entries in the A&S competition, nine entries (all of high quality!) in the Craftsperson's Faire. Elena won the Craftsperson's faire with her illumination. Ealdread won Champion d'Epé, Christopher became the new Champion d'arc, Cais was named Champion d'arms and Stephan Von Lübeck won the Standard. As the last item in court it was announced that Their Majesties have made their choice for the next Baron and Baroness of the Cleftlands: Edward and Milesent. The site closed at 7pm (no feast) and was broken down and vacated by 7:15pm. April 28 - The Cleftlands Needleworker's Guild presented the fur-trimmed houpelandes they made for Duke Bardolph and Duchess Brigh at the Coronation of Their Heirs Dag and Anne Marie. |
| AS XLII | May - During this month there were several gatherings of the Needleworker's guild to work on a pair of matching houpelandes for Edward and Milesent for their investiture in June. Work organized by Constanza de Mendoza, help from Milesent, Lyonnete, Maggie Webbe, Clara d'Este, Angharad, Li, Maggie Potter, and more. May 5 - Fifth Fun with weasels event once again at the Geauga Fairgrounds. Rhydderych debuted as an autocrat and Amye (Dostia) debuted as feast steward. Syr Theo won the Iron Weasel performing very well on the list (both heavy and rapier), at the archery range and dancing. Lord name I've forgotten from Ggwyntarian won the Wire Weasel. There were two combatants for the new "Weasel Pup" competition and Corwin won. Pietro once again won the "Best Weasel in any media" with his stunning portrait of "Weasel with a Pearl Earring". In the evening Sir Ephraim was honored with the "Lifetime Weasel Achievement Award" for having been the first Iron Weasel and the first Wire Weasel and other assorted weasely things. There was also an Inter Kingdom Brewing competition and class. The only dark spot was the gate fee which was $11 a person at the gate, or $14 for non-members and caused some grumbling amongst the populace. May 19 - Baron Wars in Red Spears (Marche of the Marshes) - well attended by Cleftlands. Longtime cleftlands friend Cowbow (Victor von Murdock) entered into the Order of the Dragon's Heart. Milesent's last event as Oaken Signet. May 26-27 - Crown Tournament and Kingdom A&S in Gwyntarian. Well attended by Cleftlands, Rutgur fought well in the tournament getting to the quarter finals, Ser Nick also fought in the tournament. June 2 - Northern Oaken War Maneuvers XI - Site was again the Ukranian camp, Autocrats were Edward Fizranulf, Wulfgar and Nial. The kitchen was headed by Sean Dryw and Jonathan. Attendance was down from previous years (in keeping with reports from other events of the season.) June 2 - Court of His Majesty Dag at NOWM XI - Sorcha Fraser and Rhydderych awarded arms, Edward Brackenburye and Milesent Vibert installed as the third Baron and Baroness of the Cleftlands, Ephraim ben Shlomo and Madelaine Bouvier made a Baron and Baroness of the court. June 6 - Regular meeting, first Baronial court of Edward and Milesent. Baronial champions present, Stephan and Ealdred, asked if it is their wish to continue in that capacity. The custom of allowing past champions to wear the Baronial arms extended and also announced that right is extended as well to past Barons and Baronesses. Finally, called up those who had served feast at NOWM to offer them tokens of gratitude. June 11 - Short baronial court at Eastwatch meeting to ask archery champion Christopher if he would like to continue in that office with the new Baron and Baroness, he said yes. June 30 - Royal University of the Midrealm event in Gwyntarian. Several Cleftlanders taught classes including Milesent, Edward, Syr Theo, Zsof, Alaric, Lyonnete and a lady whose name I keep forgetting. Bad me! Julliana? The Dread Pirate Prudence's rapier challenge to the Cleftlands rapier combatants went unanswered. July 1 - Archery War Practice held at the Chardin range, about 30 attendees, lovely weather. Christopher and Cherise organized and marshaled the shoot. That same day the cooks guild held an outdoor cooking day at the Strawberry picnic area in the Metroparks Chagrin reservation; several people went to the cooks gathering after shooting archery. July 7 - Brawl at the Crooked Dragon Tavern event in Falcon's Quarry. Attendance by Cleftlanders was high. Kari authorized for Heavy Weapons combat, Jared of Coventry authorized epee, Cherise authorized as a combat archer, Bernard authorized as a rapier combatant. Calum and Crispin were taken out of the fighting early by armour failures. Shlomo won the prize for Best Entry and Most Humor for the Rapier Tavern Brawl. Very hot and sunny day. Sarra Bossard cooked the feast and Christopher Bathory ran the archery range, training a Falcon's Quarry member in being an archery marshal. July 11 - A very eventful regular meeting. The Dread Pirate Prudence of Brendoken came with one of the Barony's highway signs she took home from Northern Oaken War Maneuvers (mostly because she had room in her car for it and others did not) and challenged the rapier combatants there to fight for it. After a good evening of fighting she returned the sign to Stephan Von Lubeck. Stephan had forgotten the Baronial Standard after meeting some three or four weeks previous. Silverthorne, last year's standard bearer, bore the standard honorably in his stead and at this meeting challanged him to fight to reclaim the honor of our unit which was disparaged by his negligence of duty as our Standard Bearer and reclaim the standard itself. Laurelen invoked the list and the two fought valiantly and honorably. Stephan loosing the bout but by his courtessy and valor regaining the standard. Finally, all the troops were gathered together and Milesent presented a new Baroness's Favor with words to this effect: When I first dared to dream about what I would do if ever I became the Baroness of the Cleftlands one of my first thoughts was to create a Baroness's favor that I might bestow upon such worthies as I deemed fit.Ser Nickolas accepted graciously and spoke a few words about how he came to the Cleftlands as an outsider so many years ago and had since learned what it was to be a part of this Barony and that he felt himself truly a Cleftlander. August 8 - Immediately following the Unbelted Champion's battle at Pennsic, His Majesty Dag and Her Majesty Ann Marie place Rutgur on vigil for the Order of the Chivalry. August 9 - Court of Their Majesties Dag and Ann Marie - Rutgur elevated to the Order of the Chivalry, two cleftlands youth awarded the Dragon's Treasure (Corwin and Alex?) August 21? - Former Eastwatch Seneschal, Vasilli, receives a phone call from the Kingdom New Groups officer saying that the Kingdom Curia voted to raise Eastwatch to full status as an independant shire at Pennsic. This causes a little confusion as Eastwatch thought they had applied to be a Canton; apparently since they applied as "The Shire of Eastwatch, a Canton of the Cleftlands" they were elevated as a Shire; an independant group. August 22 - Since our new meeting site costs less to rent, the weekly tithe is lowered to a flat $1 per person. August 29 - Dessert Revel, traditional exchange of Pennsic Class notes. Eastwatch funds which the Barony was keeping in trust given to their exchequer. September 8 - Harvest day and Tournament of Chivalry event in Flaming Gryphon - good attendance by Cleftlanders, Ealdred of Gwyntarian was challenged by the Flaming Gryphon rapier challenge and won three out of five bouts. He also won the day's rapier competition. September 10 - Baron Edward and Baroness Milesent attend the Eastwatch meeting to give a statement of support to the group. September 13 - Baronial Meeting, first use of the new Baronial carpets indoors and new configuration; two heavy lists, one rapier list and one training list to be used by both heavy and rapier. September 17 - The Autocrat for the January event coming up announces that the event date has been moved to February 2nd. September 19 - Officer's meeting at Baronial meeting to discuss movement of the January event's date: The new date conflicts with Kingdom Candlemas which has the potential to be damaging to the event. After much discussion on both sides; the officers are split and the Autocrats allowed to be the tie-breaking vote to move the event to the 2nd. September 29 - Court of Their Majesty's at Coronation - Maggie the Potter awarded arms October 3 - Maggie the Potter teaches a class on building viking clay coil pots at meeting. She will fire the pots at home. October 6 - Afternoon of Fun IV Eastwatch event. Weather is unseasonably hot. October 11 - It is announced that the date for Kingdom Candlemas has changed so it no longer conflicts with the January event. Yay! October 20 - Crown Tournement in Gwyntarian - many Cleftlanders attended. Ser Nickolas fought for the honour of Serena, Rutgur fought for the honour of Ceinwen. Alaric marshaled. Ceinwen was awarded the Sapphire in evening court and Constanza entered into the Order of the Willow. November 7 - His Majesty Duncan of AEthelmearc and a squire of AEthelmearc attend our fight practice, also Thorvald gives a reading of Beowulf retold in a different period poetry form. November 14 - At Regular meeting it is announced that the Barony is considering investing some of it's funds as we currently have enough money to do so; a marked reverse to the very recent finiancial problems which plauged the Barony. November 18 - Comfit making workshop at Dame Alys' home. Alys, Angharad, Jehenne and Cassia attended. November 28 - Dessert Revel - Maggie potter hosts a clay tile class December 4 - Regular Needleworker's meeting (happens every tuesday night) this time at Maggie Webbe's home; the Baronial Gold Key is examined and sorted. December 5 - Regular meeting - a number of local merchants bring wares to sell including Maggie Potter, Torvaldr and Eleana. December 11 - Scribe's at Lailiel December 12 - Regular meeting - Scribe's guild hosts a scribal activity for children, troupe Hareem Shareem interviewed by the Plain Dealer; they were surprised that the reporter brought a video camerea for footage for the paper's web site. December 13 - Crossbow making workshop run by Gladius at Armourer's guild December 19 - Yule Revel meeting - a marked success, many attendees. Angharad organized a "12 Days of Christmas" themed dessert table, Stephan Von Lübeck organized beer, Dulcia organized an A&S display, Torvaldr performed his "Viking Home Companion" and Juliane taught a class on the birds of the 12 days of Christmas (a medieval beastiary). Court of Their Excellencies Edward and Milesent - presentation of the new Archery champion's mantel by Christopher and Cherise, Calum and Chisato given Baronial dish towels for their long service in event kitchens, Clairiel du Vent Argent given a slotted spoon and embarrassed in front of everyone as we announced that we will be calling our Baronial Award "the Order of Saint Clairiel" until such time as the official name passes. Birna Gunnlaugsdottir made the premiere of the Order. Vasilii, Eleana and Eva also entered into the Order for their work as Seneschals of Eastwatch. Stephan von Lübeck given the Baroness's Favor and Sir Rutgur presented a new sword of state for the Barony. |
| 2008 | January 16 - Regular meeting, Dulcia Wylde officially hands off the office of A&S Minister to Clara d'Este January 30 - Dessert Revel, Duke Alen teaches a beginning glovmaking class, Dmitrii brings a projector and shows a movie about last year's Pennsic. February 2 - A Regular Event in Cleftlands - the Crusades and Tournament of Chivalry. The first time a Tournament of Chivalry was held in the Cleftlands. Site was the Berea County Fairgrounds which proved ample despite some folks misgivings, though the site lacks a kitchen. Bernard and Zsof were co-autocrats, Bernard caught a cold shortly before the event but managed to attend despite his illness. Edward FitzRanulf ran the kitchen with help from Madelaine. Jared of Coventry was the Gatekeeper with help from Lassarina. Maggie organized classes and Sarra Bossard was in charge of the lunch. Feast and lunch were both well recieved and remarkable, especially given the lack of a kitchen! Their Majesties of Aethelmearc were in attendance as well as our own King, Queen, Prince and Princess. Stephan Von Lubeck was Royalty Liaison with help from Seadna. February 2 - Court of Their Majesties Palymar and Aislinn - Gylis and Eva awarded Arms, Christopher entered into the Order of the Dragon's Barb, Ealdred awarded the Cavandish Knot, Lothar de Normandie made a Captain of the Gold Mace, Eastwatch is officially raised to full status. February 4 - Kenston Middle School Demo February 7 - Home School Demo February 22 - Boy Scout Demo March 1 - Regional Cooks Symposium event in Castel Gwent, several Cleftlanders attended, Dame Alys, Torvaldr and Edawrd Fitzranulf taught classes. March 3 - Scribe's at Lailiel (Moved to the first Monday night of the month instead of second Tuesday as many scribes have developed issues with Tuesdays) March 22 - Cleftlands group outting to the Arms and Armour exibit of armour from Austria (mostly 16th and 17th century armour) very impressive! Organized by Llwellyn, over 30 Cleftlanders attended. March 29 - Qaina Hafla event in Brendoken. Jezebel of Hareem Shareem was one of the co-autocrats and our own Francesca di Simonetti headed the kitchen. Milesent taught a class on Persian costume, Esheva taught make up for the stage. The toupe Hareem Shareem did a lot of work for the event, even though it was not in their Barony. April 5 - "Never Trust a Barony Over 30" Standard Bearer's event. Shlomo was the autocrat with Pietro as his able second and Gatekeeper. Lady Sarra headed the kitchen, Clairiel organized an amazing history display, Julianne was in charge of the Artisian's Solar (as Milesent was busy being Baroness) and Llewellyn organized a "Bardic Brawl" which was very entertaining and well received. Lady Alex organized a silent auction for the Royal Travel fund. The site fee was set at one dollar as a thank you to our populace, and an annonymous member of the populace paid that site fee for everyone. Several visitors came from very far including Pieter Van Doorn and Sir Grod Grondis. Baron Edward held the field at the start of the Standard Bearer's tournament and fought each combatant before they could officially enter the tournament. Shaun authorized as a fighter just before the tourney. Bernard Strumere won the Standard, Miguel de Cervesa won Champion d'epee, Ealdred of Gwyntarian wom Champion d'arc and Cherise of Cleftlands was selected as the new Champion d'arms to loud cheers. His Grace Laurelen was entered into the Order of Saint Clairiel, as was Syr Theo. Also it was announced that those who previously had been given the "Baronial Award to be Named" were no members of the Order of Saint Clairiel. Kari won a pair of ceramic goblets glazed blue and white for having the best tale at the feast. Milesent selected Master Aiden as the new Primere Dancer of the Dance Guild. April 16 - Regular meeting, several visitors from Aethelmearc came to fight with us April 19 - Kingdom Heraldic and Scribal Symposium in Sandusky, Dame Alys, Milesent and Lyonnete taught classes. April 23 - Regular meeting, Court of Edward and Milesent to release Stephan as Standard Bearer and hand over the standard to Bernard. Visit by a barbershop quartet which was practicing in the building and serenaded our fighters. |

Many Cleftlanders attended. May 17 - Their Majesties Lutr and Tessa's reign is ended abruptly due to a lapse in Society membership which impacts the entire Kingdom. Duke Palymar is named Regent until a new Crown Tournament can be held. May 21 - Caius presents the Baronial Challenge Sword - a wooden waster sword to be used for issuing challenges inscribed with "knowing we shall never yeild" (a line from the Cleftlands Battle Song) in latin. Caius asked that the first use of the sword be at Northern Oaken War Maneuvers, challenging Baron Edward to issue a challenge upon the sword to the other Barons and Baronesses present. May 24 - Kingdom A&S in Kentucky - many Cleftlanders attend. Sarra Bossard, Milesent, Edward, Lyonnete judge. Zuriel works in the tally room. Clara d'Este receives a 2nd place for illumination, Milesent receives a second place for bookbinding. May 25 - Crown Tournament - Sir Lutr is victorious in the morning ad hoc tournament, being crowned King immediately. The Landed Barons and Baronesses were invited to attend the list for the finals along with the Order of the Chivalry. Duchess Ithriliell was in attendance for the first time in many years. Several Cleftlanders fought, Syr Theo in the morning tournament and Sir Rutgur, Ser Nick, Lothar, Artair and Silverthorn in the afternoon tournament. All fought well and honorably, Ser Nickolas making it into the semi finals! May 31 - Fun with Weasels in Eastwatch - Much fun was had, in the evening as people gathered for the presentation of the winners and a quick Baronial court a sudden storm hit which toppled the Baronial tent. Much valor by those present to keep the tent upright and re-stake it down. Pietro won the "Best Weasel in any media" competition yet again (this time with a viking ship prow carving of a weasel) and declaired he would not enter next year. Vasilli recieved his Order of Saint Clairiel. June 6 - Northern Oaken War Maneuvers XII - again at the Ukranian camp. Mistress Seadna was the autocrat, but was unable to attend as her physician had put her on bed rest late in her pregnancy. Her deputies were Stephan von Lübeck and Wulfgar. Torchlight tournament was very well attended, Edward Fitzranulf won the rapier tournament and Captain Gunnar Redboar won the heavy tournament. Ivan the Mongrel and one other fighter fought in both the Rapier and Heavy, which was a challenge as both were occurring at the same time. June 7 - Northern Oaken War Maneuvers XII - The event had a record attendance of over 500 people. The feast was catered, and was lightly attended. Katrine du Val was the gatekeeper, Dame Alys arranged classes. The Baronial Challenge sword was used for a six man grande melee, each Baron and Baroness chose five champions to take the field with them (or four in the case of Middle Marches where both the Baron and Baroness are fighters). As Milesent was not able to attend the challenge (she had to go teach a class) Lyonnete stood in for her to recieve the challenge sword. Their Majesties and His Highness judged the melee and chose to award the prize to Baron Thorkel of Red Spears for his valor. Milesent took her Baroness's favor back from Sir Nickolas and presented it to his squire, Farthen. Middle Marches issued an archery challenge, our champion d'arc Ealdred met their archery champion on the range and did win the challenge, besting Malachai by 12 points! Also Lady Cherise challenged Baroness Isabeau of Middle Marches and bested her at the friend/foe target by a single arrow. Well done! Sir Nickolas presented a poem he wrote in pennance for forgetting the Baroness's favor at Standard Bearer's. June 7 - Court of Their Majesties Lutr and Tessa - Clara d'Este, Thomasina, Esheva Inveron awarded arms, Syr Theo and Lady Alex made a Baron and Baroness of the Court. July 5 - Brawl at the Crooked Dragon in Falcon's Quarry. Several Cleftlanders authorized, Zsof, Jora, Sara of the Erie Sea, and Farthen? authorized for combat archery, Ealdred and Bernard authorized in spear and His Excellency Edward authorized in polearm. Lady Esheva presented with her award of arms in a Baronial court. July 8 - Officer's meeting at Stephan's house. Katherin, Stephan, Runa, Clara, Shlomo, Edward and Milesent attended. July 9 - Regular meeting, Lady Katherin steps down as Senschal and Lady Constanza de Mendoza installed as the new Seneschal in a Baronial court. Also announced that Katerin ferch Gwillian and Dmitrii will be the new co-pursuivants.July 23 - The last meeting before Pennsic, just an outdoors fight practice (building was not rented) threats of rain kept most everyone away. Laurelen, Baron Edward, Milesent, Lyonnete, Caius, Ulric, John of Cleftlands, Gail, Nancy, Constanza and Edward Fitzranulf were present. August 7 - Royal court at Pennsic. Alaric awarded the Sapphire, Cherise entered into the Order of the Dragon's Barb. August 8 - Court on the battlefield at Pennsic - Laurelen awarded the Dragon's Tooth for fighting all week with a broken thumb. August 20 - Baronial meeting - Standard Bearer Bernard given a two part quest to make up for leaving the Standard on the battlefield unattended while he went to Chiurgeon's point to have his toe looked at. First, he fought the former standard bearer, Stephan for three bouts, secondly he is to seek out Duke Edmund and ask him his thoughts on Standards. Sibylla takes over officially as Dance Guild Mistress, Kari takes over Iron Key from Stephan. August 27 - Dessert Revel - Syr Theo teaches a class on pole axe. Lady Sibylla starts dancing early at 6:30. Gwydion officially steps down as Pursuivant and Dmitrii and Katerin take over. Sept 6 - Aldamouries and Milesent teach at the Known World Heraldic Symposium in London, England. September 13 - Saxon Summer event in Rivenvale Sept 13 - Lyonnete, Edward and Milesent attend an event in Raglan, Wales. Edward and Lyonnete distinguished themselves in the Pas d'Arms, winning 3 of the 4 prizes including Lyonete being selected as the overall Pas winner by the gallery of ladies. Edward and Milesent presented a gift of Euclid Beach popcorn balls and other American edibles to Their Majesties of Drachenwald. Sept 14 - Storyteller's guild cookout scheduled alas, rained out. September 20 - Pounce event in Red Spears, featuring the humerous 'War of Lozengia' well attended by Cleftlanders. Edward Brackenburye wins the Atlantian Speed Tournament, his first ever tourney win! September 24 - Dessert Revel, Duke Alen taught a class on glovemaking, Mistress Helewyse taught a class on brewing. The Brewer's guild Cordial Contest held. Pietro entered a Mulberry cordial, Sarra entered a Lime Cordial, Zuriel entered a Pomegranet cordial, Gail entered an Orange Spice cordial, Stephan entered a peach cordial and Nicole entered a Kiwi-Lime cordial. Helewyse, Milesent and Ealdred judged. Zuriel won the prize of a gift certificate to a local brewery supply store and Nicole was given a copy of "A Sip Through Time" as an honorable mention for having the best novice cordial. Dance Guild challenge announced. The Pursuivants set up a consultation table, hoping to start a new tradition. Several newcomers in attendance. Sept 27 - Coronation in Kentucky, Juliane Beauchampe awarded arms, Brice Colquhoun awarded the Dragon's Heart, Artair made King's Champion. Sept 30 - Several members gathered at Dmitrii's home to remove his carpets so they could be used by our rapier combatants as Recher hall had requested they fight on carpet as well to protect the floors from shoe scuffs. Attendees included Dmitrii, Cynwrig, Maiike, FitzRanulf, Pietro, Shlomo, Juliane and Llwyellyn. October 4 - Afternoon of Fun event in Eastwatch, chilly but otherwise good weather and full of fun. Many newcomers in attendance and notibly well attended by Equestrians with 8 horses competeing. October 11 - Red Dragon event in Tyrnewydd, Sir Rutgur wins the points tourney and the team of Farthen, Winfang and Vedrix are the only team to defeat the Dragon in the Dragon Melees winning the prize (The Dragon was made up of seven knights roped together including Ser Nickolas as the Tail with his deadly spear). Milesent wins Baroness Isabeau's archery challenge by one arrow. October 18 - Crown Tournament in Flaming Gryphon, Syr Theo (aka EikBrandr) wins against Duke Edmund in the finals crowning his Lady Runa (formerly Alexandra la Noire) Princess of the Middle Kingdom. Other Cleftlanders fighting included Ser Nickolas, Sir Rutgur and Brice Colquhoun. November 1 - Road to Alexandria event in Gwyntarian, several Cleftlanders helped out. Hareem Shareem performed during the feast. Milesent taught a class, Their Highnesses first event as Royalty. Llweyllyn and Juliane reprised their very successfull storyteller's guild middle eastern coffee corner. November 25 - To make up for the loss of our meeting site the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Baron Edward reserved the site on the Tuesday before for a fight practice. About 25 individuals attended. Also the final meeting of November was declared to be just a meeting and not a Dessert Revel to allow more enthusiasm for the December Revel two weeks following. December 4 - Madrigal concert Demo in Bedford. Her Highness Runa, Milesent, Juliane, Tomasina, Llwellyn and Zuriel attended. December 6 - Site walk through for potential Coronation site by Baronial officers and event staff; Central Catholic High School and St. Stanislas church. December 17 - Yule Revel Dessert Revel. Llwyellyn organized the dessert table, food on the theme of Christmas songs, many delicious offerings. A&S Display was only lightly entered, but quality! Dance Challenge successfully completed before court with the 10 winners announced. Baronial Court: Ylaria bat Levi, Hareem Shareem and Kari Gharranhirson entered into the Order of Saint Clairiel. The Squires of the Barony issued a challenge to use the Baronial Challenge sword in the next year and bring the tale of their challenge to next year's Yule Revel. Eight New Authorized fighters called forward but none were present. Stephan von Lubeck returned the Baroness's Favor which Milesent then bestowed upon Angharad ferch Tangwystl. December 23 - Tuesday fighter practice in lower hall only, no meeting this week. fewer attendees than the November practice. December 30 - Tuesday fighter practice in lower hall only, no meeting this week. Only four armed fighters and about 6-8 others attended. Was in the upper hall at the last minute as the lower hall was set up for a New Year's eve event at the hall. |
| 2009 | January 24 - A Regular Event in Cleftlands - Bridges of Venice. Sarra Bossard and Bernard Strumere teamed up as co-autocrats and the site was again the Berea Fairgrounds. Sarra combatted the drafty site with an inovative use of car ports to block the cold air from the doorway and provide sound baffling for the classes. Edward Fitzranulf coordinated many classes, Francesca di Simonetti coordinated a sideboard feast. January 24 - Court of Thier Majesties Ullr and Annelyse - Arms awarded to Kari Garanhirson (presented at feast) and Yllaria bas Levi. Bernhard Sturmaere, Birna Gunnlaugsdottir, Cynwrig ap Llywelyn, Ivan the Mongrel, Farthen Rinkson, Thomasina and Vasilii Volchago Zuba Syn awarded the Purple Fret. Caius Mac An Bhaird entered into the Order of the Silver Oak, Cherise recieved the Cavendish Knot. Wulfgar Hlotharius Von Aachen awarded the Sapphire and Sarah of the Erie Sea entered into the Order of the Dragon's Heart. January 28 - Meeting cancelled due to snow storm. February 18 - Valley Forge High School Demo - Dame Alys, Baroness Milesent, Llwellyn and Katerien ferch Gwyllian attend. February 18 - Official presentation of 'regalia' from former Exchequer Shlomo to the new Exchequer, Lady Ceinwen. Quite humorous. February 25 - Sir Conrad sponsored a formal tournament for Dessert Revel. 14 combatants processed in order of precedence and were presented to Their Highnesses, Their Excellencies and a gallery of ladies. After the double-elimination tournament Sargent Artair was victorious and won the prize which was a sword provided by Conrad. At the small court after the tournament prizes were also awarded to Segan Gillpatrick and Farthen Rinkson for thier courtessy, prowess and honor. Their Highnesses presented Kari with his award scroll for his AoA and Their Excellencies issued a challenge to the Barony's cooks to prepare a dish for next dessert revel which fits the dietary restrictions of His Highness Eikbrandr, Master Aiden, Lyonnete and Sibylla. March ? - Artair made a captain of the Red Company at Gulf Wars March 25 - Dessert Revel cooking challenge, many delightful entries Gail entered Flan, Ana had a lovely bread pudding, someone else entered almond cookies and Madelaine won with her rice pudding entry. The prize was a pipkin period cooking pot. March 28th - Regional Arts and Sciences competition in Alderford. 10 out of the 30 entries were from Cleftlands and all did well! Duke Alen received 4 first places with his gloves (cross-entered in leather and costume accessory), Zsof recieved a very high second place on her bardic performance and Milesent recieved 4 first places and one second place on her five Pentathalon entries. Her Highness Runa, Baron Edward, Milesent, Clara d'Este, Nicole, Sika, and Dostia all judged. April 1 - Regular meeting, Urric taught a rapier class and there was a discussion of cut-and-thrust rapier. April 18 - our 17th Standard Bearer's event held at Sir Will and Mistress Seadna's home. Beautiful, sunny day. Dulcia Wylde and Baron Edward were the co-autocrats. There was a pot-luck luncheon served after the championship competitions. Pietro Nicolo de San Tebaldo won the title Champion d'epee, Garvin the Slow won Champion d'arc, Ealdred of Gwyntarian was named Champion d'arms (having competed in all three competitions though he just returned from a trip to Belguim the night before!) and Vedrix was undefeated in the heavy list winning the right to be Standard Bearer. April 22 - Baronial court at Regular meeting, new champions introduced to their Barony and Ealdred of Gwyntarian presented with a tiny tasting mug on a cord (to be worn around the neck) glazed blue and white nebuly (made by Mistress Nonna the Midwife) as regalia for his post as official Drinker for Baron Edward

| AS XLIV | May 2 - The Coronation of Eikbrandr and Runa - site was St. Stanislas Church and Cleveland Central Catholic High School (where Wulfgar is a teacher). Edward Fitzranulf was the autocrat, Juliane Beauchamp his deputy autocrat. Barones Madelaine was the gatekeeper. A troup of about 30 High School students fitted in server's tabbards helped the day of the event winning the admiration of many. The morning court was held in the beautiful gothic church. Artair MacNecail was released as King Ullr's champion and awarded the Royal Vanguard. The Coronation ceremony was elegant, King Eikbrandr walking from the dias to Crown his Queen Runa amongst her people. The assembled Landed Barons accompanied Her Highness into court. Sarra Bossard and Eva Strumere headed the Lunch Tavern and Breakfast Bar, respectively, Ealdred of Gwyntarian stewarded the sumptuous feast. In a break with modern tradition, court was held after feast (which was the norm in years past.) The weather was beautiful, which made the multiple building site easier to manage. Some fighters headed out into the parking lot for pick up fights. Baroness Milesent coordinated classes, Cherise headed the servers and coordinated merchants. Ginevra and Sibylla coordinated the evening Ball. May 2 - Court of Their Majesties Eikbrandr and Runa - Winfang the Younger, Ginevra and Collete (formerly Nicole) awarded arms, Sibylla of Amasya awarded the Purple Fret, Duke Alen and Aurora entered into the Order of the Willow, Ealdred and Clairiel made Baron and Baroness of the court. May 8 - Demo for a barmitzpha May 23 - Kingdom A&S in the Barony of White Waters (Indiana) - Milesent was successful in her Pentathalon entry getting four first places and one second place and was named the Kingdom A&S Champion. Duke Alen also did well with three first places and one second place on his gloves and Zsof received a second place for her bardic performance. May 24 - Crown Tournament in the Barony of White Waters - Baron Edward, Sir Nickolas, Sir Rutgur and Captain Artair fought in the tournament to honour their ladies and King Eikbrandr (Theodric) May 27 - Dessert Revel - Milesent taught a class on making Persian pants, Hareem Shareem and the Shuvani Jezebels hosted a Hafla for the revel with music, food and dancing. Stephan von Lübeck taught a class on melee tactics. May 30 - East 200th Street Stroll demo in Euclid well attended by the Barony. Attendees included: Baron Edward and Baroness Milesent, Lyonnete, Crispin, Gwydion, Master Aiden, Hely, Jehenne, Elizabethe, Dmitrii, Esther, Jesse, Pietro, Ilsa, Dulcia, Julianne, Llwyllen, the Shuvani Jezebel troupe from Gwyntarian with their drummers, and more.
